About GTAAG

The Georgia Turkish American Advocacy Group (GTAAG) is a non-profit organization

formed to promote the awareness and understanding of Turks in America through

education, public awareness, and community service.

America was built upon the principles of democracy and freedom.  As such, it is the duty of every citizen to get involved with the American political process and exercise these freedoms.  Furthermore, as Turkish Americans, we constitute an often misunderstood minority group.  GTAAG strives not only to represent Georgian Turks in correspondences with Congressmen, but also to inform and educate the American public in general about Turks, our history and issues that are important to our community's well being.

The Turkish-American Community of Georgia

is comprised of at least 6,000 families (not counting Turkish students studying in Georgia colleges).  In addition to Turkish-Americans whose families immigrated to the United States many years ago, the numbers of the Atlanta Turkish community have been bolstered by the recent arrival of Meshketian (Ahiska) Turkish refugees from the Krasnodar region of Russia.  Several thousand Ahiska Turks have already arrived, and the influx continues.  The various Turkish-American organizations in Atlanta have been working round the clock to aid with the relocation of the new arrivals, including providing humanitarian aid, teaching English classes, and welcoming them into the Atlanta Turkish community.  As new blood pours in from Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and other Turkic communities - together with 2nd and 3rd generation Turkish Americans - we hope our community to become stronger and close knit as the years progress.
